You may have noticed I haven’t written anything on the site in over a week. My apologies. Truth is I’ve been extremely busy as of late. However, I have recently made what I believe to be a life-altering decision, and I felt the need to write up an update for everybody.

Can anybody really be considered an “expert” in social media? After all, this stuff hasn’t been around very long. There are certainly people who know a lot about it, don’t get me wrong, but when I think of the term expert, Malcolm Gladwell’s 10,000-hour rule comes to mind.

I have a question for you. How many ‘influencers’ do you follow?
What’s an influencer? Well, it’s someone who influences, of course. You’d know an influencer if you saw one. They’re the marketing gurus, content wizards, and social media mavens you see being retweeted all over Twitter-land. They’re the thought-creators and mentors of social media. To put it in Wall Street terms, they’re whales (and not fail whales either). Did you ever think about how they got that way?

Today I want to talk a little bit about consistency. Whether you own a blog, create content, or engage with others using social media, you need to get into the habit of maintaining a constant pace. Otherwise, your efforts to keep your audience will fall short.

The term ‘personal branding’ has always intrigued me. A couple of weeks ago, I was interviewed by Brand-Yourself.com and one of the questions I was asked was “What’s the difference between personal branding and social branding?”. Here’s the answer I gave:
