Can anybody really be considered an “expert” in social media? After all, this stuff hasn’t been around very long. There are certainly people who know a lot about it, don’t get me wrong, but when I think of the term expert, Malcolm Gladwell’s 10,000-hour rule comes to mind.

I have a question for you. How many ‘influencers’ do you follow?

What’s an influencer? Well, it’s someone who influences, of course. You’d know an influencer if you saw one. They’re the marketing gurus, content wizards, and social media mavens you see being retweeted all over Twitter-land. They’re the thought-creators and mentors of social media. To put it in Wall Street terms, they’re whales (and not fail whales either). Did you ever think about how they got that way?
