Here’s an interesting infographic I found about Facebook. It has many historical facts and figures and covers a lot of information. When looking at it, one thing stood out to me: Facebook is big.
When you grasp just how big Facebook really is, you’ll realize that you have to build a presence on that network. Facebook can help you take a major step in making your brand more social.
Image credit goes to the Website Monitoring Blog for compiling all of this great information.
Because the image is so big, I’ve posted it after the break. Enjoy.
A couple of weeks ago I wrote a post called My Twitter Dilemma where I talked about how I wasn’t able to really enjoy Twitter because of all the spam and garbage followers I had. Well, I’m happy to say that after my little experiment I have cut that down to zero and I now have a list of people I actually care about and can communicate with. Allow me to share with you exactly how I did this.
Follow Engagers
The first thing I did was unfollow everyone on my list, which was nearly 50,000 “tweeple”. I accomplished this with a website I found here. Once I unfollowed everyone, thousands of accounts started unfollowing me instantly. Of course these were not actual followers at all–they were bots. Real people can’t do what I witnessed, they just can’t.
I decided that to enrich my Twitter experience I would need to find and follow the people I could best describe as engagers.
Here comes another one of my favorite videos. I love video, and I decided that if I don’t feel like writing a post every day I’m going to show some cool vids instead. You should like this one.
Last night I watched this epic interview from November on This Week in Startups (TWiST). It features Jason Calacanis and Gary Vaynerchuk. I’ve been on kind of a Gary V kick lately, not gonna lie. The guy knows his stuff and he’s constantly giving me ideas, which is what I hope will happen for you.
I posted this video so that it starts about 49 minutes in. I want you to watch about 5 minutes of it right now, but I think you should watch it in its entirety later on.
The part of the interview I want to showcase is how Gary talks about how far we’ve come in such a short period of time. He says that we don’t realize how lucky we are that we’re immersed in things like online video and Twitter because that puts us ahead of 99% of the people out there who haven’t gotten on-board, which means there’s some serious cash to be made.
Last week I posted a video of Gary Vaynerchuk talking about branding. In it, Gary said “You need to build brand equity. When you have brand equity anything can happen.” He went on to talk about some of the things that people ask him, like “Which tools should I use?” Gary said, “All of them. Your user base—and the people that care about you—you need to connect to them anyway you can, everywhere you can, as often as you can. That is essential.”
I couldn’t agree more with that statement. It is imperative that you use all the tools available to you. Why? Because your users are using them. The people you are trying to reach out to are in these social communities and more and more of them are popping up every day.
It is important that your users can find you on any network they use. Creating a social brand means having a presence in every community. It means making yourself available for interaction with your user base.
I occasionally write posts on various tools you can use to leverage social media, but in today’s article, I’m going to show you how to find all of the tools you can use to reach out to your community—the tools to find the tools, so to speak. Once you find them, you can begin development using the 4 C’s.
OK, so this week was pretty intense. Due to jury duty, St. Patty’s Day (Woo!), and March Madness, my productivity level was hovering somewhere around zero (what?).
Anyway, here is this week’s edition of the Friday Link Session. Every Friday, I share some of the interesting content I’ve read/watched this week from some of my favorite places on the web. If you missed last week’s links you can find them here.
If you’re busy this weekend and don’t feel like being near a computer I won’t mind (or blame you), but if you’re bored, here’s some interesting reading for you to check out:
There you go! I follow a lot more blogs than those listed so you will always have some good content to read. I try to share good content on Twitter, StumbleUpon, and Google Reader as well so if you need some extra reading come find me.
